Content is King and is the foundation of anything and everything on the Internet. Without quality content visitors will move on quickly, Search Engines will ignore your pages and your debt will continue to rise. However content alone will not bring success. You have to get people to the content, otherwise it’s just a lot of wasted energy and expense. Wouldn't life be great if all we had to do was post quality content on our site to be successful?

Now allow me to say what is really bugging me. "I hate social media"

It's just a layer of useless garbage that business people have to apply resources and expense to in order to compete in the Internet world. LinkThis, FaceCrap that, YouBoob idiot. Yes I understand the value of these mediums and the power they have to drive traffic but goodness why do we have to keep complicating things?

Oh BTW, nice article Pete.

Pete,

Since I'm following this conversation both here and on Plaxo - http://www.plaxo.com/events/show/227834330571?src=email&et=7&el=en_us&key=4bd840a7320230caf465fedbc9e8f2acec29becd#comments - please, forgive any/all overlap and/or duplication of points.

Yes, of course, good content is an essential part of the foundation to being found on the 'Net - without it on what would those search engines have to feed?!

However, once you begin to bring into this conversation branding, marketing, buzz, social media, public relations, business networking, viral, WOM, etc., that (somewhat) "simple" foundation of "good content" becomes overflowing and stuffed to the gills.

What's an e-preneur to do with all this information and all these possibilities?

Begin with the essentials - which brings me (and, you, it seems) back to good content. While the older adage "Content is king" is still true (and will aways be true on the WWW), Rolando, Julliete, Gary and many others know that a king without a full and functioning "court" has little or no power at all. ...and, so it is with content. Start with that good content, explore what works best for you to be found and -- keep your clients satisfied when they find you (by whatever means)and enjoy the journey.

Thanks, again, for this, Pete ~

Dance on...

Good post Pete.

There is no silver bullet and just putting up good content is like rowing a boat with one oar.

We know that at the end of the day, a web site is just like any other business property. It requires maintenance, marketing and, above all else, needs to offer something of value to its visitors. Nothing new there; it just takes work and dedication.

Thanks again for sharing your views.

I totally agree. Content is so freely available that all one has to do is search for a few minutes and they can find the same webinar that some are paying $150.00 for being offered for free. You can view a video on YouTube that will teach you how to speed read, why pay $179.00 for Evelyn Wood DVD?

My prediction is that Content Kings will be replaced with those that give Personal Customer Service. A human being answering the phone. Easy contact means through websites. A help desk that you don't have to wade through a million posts in an online database to find a phone number.

The personal touch will make a come back and those who give it will reign once again, as they should!

totally agree with you, Pete. You make me remind a great book from Julliete Powell (33 Million people in the room), who writes in reference of Gary Vaynerchuk: "Content is King, distribution is Queen, and marketing, along with business development, are the Aces in the hole".
Content is the base, but we need a clear strategy about it, and a clear strategy to promote it.
Cheers,
@RolandoPeralta
