Web Site Video Getting Started
Web video has become the accepted norm, more often than not you will find Video included on most Web Sites.
Web Site Video Benefits
Without doubt having video available on your web site is beneficial. Video benefits your web site by providing a audio / visual experience to display your business’s message to current and potential customers.
Video Search Optimization also improves the ability of your web site to obtain visibility in Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).
The use of Blended Search results which combine various Google categories such as News, Images and Video results on a single results page has improved the ability of Video to obtain 1st page visibility for competitive keywords and phrases.
Barriers To Web Site Video
Web Video undoubtedly provides business benefits however, these benefits are not necessarily easy to obtain. There are barriers to access the benefits of web site video such as; video production, and providing the functionality on your web site to enable Web Site visitors to view your videos.
Personally I find the production to be the biggest barrier to increasing the use of Video within my web site. The need to learn additional software and developing topic relevant videos are my biggest hurdles.
Adding the Video Player
Adding the functionality to the web site is easily over come and there are a couple of options.
The simplest option is to host your Videos on a Video Sharing web site such as YouTube and embed the code provided into the appropriate areas of your web page or Blog.
In this case your video file is hosted with YouTube and the player used to show the video on your web site is loaded from the video sharing web site.
Hosting on a Video Sharing web site also has the advantage of providing a stream of Social Network traffic to your web site.
Self hosting your video on your web site is my preferred option as this provides increased control over the video player environment, and it is a good ideo to have a local copy of all videos available on your web site.
FlowPlayer is an excellent free Open Source Player for various media types. Although there is some installation required, once this has completed it is a simple case of copy and pasting the provided code into your web page to enable the player. After this has been done once, you just need to change the file name within the code and your next video has been made available to your web site visitors.
Top 5 Video Optimization Techniques

- The Title as the topic indicator
- Video Submission and RSS
A Word of Caution
I was recently discussing the web site elements Internet users find most frustrating and at the top of the list was Auto Starting Video.
Remember! give the visitor the choicie to view the video. Often Auto Start videos have the potential to temporarily freeze the web browser, and this is sure to create a bad impression with your web site visitor and may be a contributing factor to web site bounce rates.
Now I ask the Question
While writing this post I am obviously thinking I should include a Video on this topic. As I stated earlier Video Production is a challenge I face.
What would you like to see in a Implementing Web Site Video? I look forward to your suggestions.
