How important is video? To paraphrase a classic movie, "Son, I have one word to say to you--video."

Video has the twin advantages of being highly viral and extremely mobile (think iPods).

--News releases (which can also be posted on Web sites) have been around for a long time, of course.

--Creating a video and puting it up on YouTube is becoming more commonplace....

-- ...but many forget the other video-sharing sites, such as Vimeo, YahooVideo, Revver, VideoJug, Break and Rocketboom.

--Even fewer bother to submit their content to the video search engines, such as Truveo, Blinkx, foooo (//en.foooo.com), Pixsy, Clipblast and Metacafe.

Other worthwhile tactics:

--Webcasts of streaming video

--Creating a vlog (streaming-video blog) and posting it to YouTube

--To get your vlog disseminated to microblogs such as Twitter, place it onhttp://seesmic.tv/

--Create vcasts (video podcasts) and host them on a Web site

--Mob vlogs (mobile video blogs)-

--Videotape speeches and other live presentations for posting on YouTube and as vlogs, vcasts, etc.

--Sufficiently viral videos can be promoted on viral-content hosts such as Viralmonitor

--VOD (video on demand) can be leveraged to market to/support site visitors by disseminating a range of content such as distance-learning “Webinars,” coaching tutorials, how-to videos, manuals/guides/tips, online meetings & summaries, and training sessions for marketing & sales.

--Purchased ad placements in video search-engine results

--Google's Ad Platform for games

--Paid or pro-bono charity billboards inserted into 3-D virtual-reality games...

--...as well as in virtual multiverses such as Second Life

--Machinima (Japanese for using games to make movies within the real-time 3D virtual world of the game)

--Nonprofits will benefit from the YouTube Nonprofit Channel Program, enabling them to connect with supporters, volunteers and donors with their own designated (and free) channel.

--Few people realize how easy getting their own TV program on community public-access TV stations can be. Many local cable companies offer free (or very inexpensive rental) use of their studios & cameras, which can be used to create a TV infomercial or interview program. Your video content can then be hosted on a Web site...

-- ...and even turned into a DVD, which can be sold or given away online.
