Great content The secret to success Maybe

I so often hear the secret to great Web Site Promotion is, “Great Content”. Well is there anything else we need to do? Do we just write it and they will come? The Great Content Believers claim providing great content is the key to a successful Web Site. High quality content will drive traffic to web sites without promotion The Social Media Believers think the Social Environment should categorized content by topic, relevancy and popularity and this knowledge is then passed on by the Social Network. The Pay Per Click Believers consider the populace needs to be made aware of the content and utilize paying, as we have always done to broadcast a message to the public. The Search Engine Optimization Believers do consider “Content is King” but must use well structured content and web design to attract attention for Search Engine Results Page inclusion. Think Web 2.0: User generated content. Well that has certainly been achieved. The competition has always been high even for the Pre-Web 2.0 generated content. Consider the amount of content generated daily from:
  • Business Web Sites
  • Blogs Personal and Business
  • Social Network discussions Linkedin /Facebook
  • Micro Blogging Twitter not to mention all the others
  • Audio . Video
Ok where do I stop? That is just online. However, we also compete with off line content for our attention.

Of course we need to promote content no matter how good it is.

The competition is immense regardless of niche. Sure targeting a niche will be easier to grab attention, but even those within the niche have other needs and interests and we must compete against that great content as well. So which group has got it right? Well call me a fence sitter, but I agree with them all. However, I do have this tremendous urge to wrap them up into a program. I see the competition as being immense and I see the only way forward is to use all the tools and techniques available to promote an online business.

Holistic has to be the way forward. Lets face it all of the above techniques work.

I do have to side with the Great Content Believers, because without Great Content the other techniques are of little use.

The Last Word

Now let me know if I am wrong, but is this not just another version of “Build it and they will come”? Well we all know what happened to the Build it and they will come believers. The built it the built it, and they didn't come. You still have to get the message out. You do have something of value worth the eyes and attention of Internet users.
